Information overload...

Boy is my head spinning...

A few days ago I just got back from a 5day photography workshop in Breckenridge, Colorado and I'm still trying to filter through the information. This was actually my third year attending, I get so much out of them I already signed up for next year.

This year the focus was wedding photography. While I'm happy with what I've been doing so far, I now see where I can improve. There's so much I can do that'll push me to the next level it's hard to know where to start: new equipment, new techniques, and finding an assistant.

Unfortunately it'll probably mean an increase in prices for next year, especially if I can find an assistant to work with. That alone will help push the quality of images; having someone help move equipment, assist with lighting, and help with some of the details (where one pair of eyes is good, two can be better).

The worst part about attending workshops is the feeling that you need to buy new equipment. While the instructor said "The last thing I want is for anyone to feel like they need to go out and buy more equipment," it's hard not to feel like one needs to go out and spend tens thousands of dollars on equipment. The things the newest pro cameras can produce are amazing. Having said that, there are still things I can do with my current cameras that I wouldn't be able to pull off with those new ones. Also, with more equipment, the need for the assistant seems to pop up again. And to think... I was going to try and start cutting down on the amount of equipment I carry.

Ultimately I see a chance to start producing images that no one else seems to be doing right now, at least from what I've seen. I do still have a lot to work on before I reach that point, gotta practice those new techniques and really start putting them into use.

With that here's a few images from the workshop. While I didn't get a chance to take too many images, there was one day where we each got a chance to set-up create one image. The rest of the images were created at the Sunrise Safari, where a few of us insane photographers got up and hit the road by 5am to catch the sunrise at the top of one of the passes up there. While it was a pretty cloudless day, we made the best of it. At least, unlike last year, it wasn't foggy and snowy.

Brittany and Thomas - May 17th, 2008

I just finished up the images for Brittany and Thomas, whose wedding was last weekend. It was a beautiful day and a beautiful location, the First United Methodist Church. Brittany's daughter was so cute.

There were several times she was running up and down the aisle during the ceremony, but I think that provided some great opportunities for photos. Having a three-year-old myself, I try to look for the wonderful candid moments that young children can provide.

The gallery for the wedding can be found with my event galleries here: http://Shutter-Vision.instaproofs.com/

Katie and Ryan - May 10th, 2008

Braving cold, wind, and the occasional snowflake, Katie and Ryan had a wonderful wedding this past weekend.

With the threat of weather, a tent was set up in the Cheyennne Botanic Gardens the night before, so though it was a bit chilly, the guests were at least shielded from the elements a bit. The fire department even assisted the tent set-up by filling several 55gallon drums with water to help ensure the tent didn't meet an untimely demise due to the expected Wyoming winds.

Katie and Ryan's wedding gallery can be viewed: HERE

The gears are turning....

The gears are turning....

I've been doing a lot of thinking lately...
I've been doing a lot of reading lately...
I've been doing a lot of studying lately...

What does this mean?
It means I'm feeling the need to grow as a photographer and it's time to start pushing myself in directions I want to head instead of trying to do what everyone else around me is doing. I have one or two projects coming up that will allow me to stretch my creative muscles a bit and apply techniques I've been itching to put into good use.

BUT I WANT TO DO MORE!!!

I feel if I can show what I can really do, everyone else is going to want more as well!

Over the next few months, starting in June, I'm going to be looking for a few good men and women – people who want to get out and have some fun!
• I'm looking for a few Individuals: Are you an Outdoor or Sports Enthusiast or part of a team? Are you a Hobbyist? Have a favorite Past-Time? (fishing, mountain or road bikes, hiking, kayaking, bowling, darts, climbing, dancing, ballet, riding motorcycles, just about anything).
• I'm looking for a Couple or two: Do you want some portraits that really let your personalities and the love you have for one another shine through? Looking for those artistic Bridal or "Engagement" photos? Even if you've been married for years, let’s show people how much fun you still have together and that the feelings haven't diminished.
• I'm looking for a couple Artists, Musicians, and Bands: Need a new CD cover photo? Need photos for promotional materials (flyers/posters/websites)? Looking for that certain feel or mood? Want people to take your endeavors as seriously as you do?

Let's make it happen!!! E-Mail Me or call me at 307-631-2719. Let's talk about what you're looking for and what I can do for you. There will be discounts available(not sure exactly what yet and will probably vary by project and use) for the first few Individuals, Couples, Musicians, Bands, and Artists who get in touch with me. I look forward to hearing from you and hearing your ideas.

Until then, Stay in Focus!
– Keith
