New Website and BLOG!

www.Shutter-Vision.com

Over the last few evenings I uploaded the new website! I'm still working on a few pages but so far everything is going smoothly!!! I had to learn a lot of new programing to get it up and running how I wanted, but I'm pretty excited about it! I also created a new logo and branding for it!

The biggest improvement is the integrated blog as the main page!!! Now everything is in one place. Sometime next year I'm hoping to do the same for the wedding and portrait print order galleries.

What does that mean for this blog? Well I don't have time or need to maintain two blogs so this one will be discontinued. I'll still keep it up to for anyone that finds me through this one. But for current information go to:

The Red Chair!!

As Promised (granted a little latee than I said) here's the info on my new location portrait option:
THE RED CHAIR!!

This item would be great for individual or family portraits and the the uses are limited only by our imaginations: in the middle of a field, in the woods, on a dirt road, in an alley. I actually have two of them so larger families (greater than 6) are no problem.
below is a sample image taken in a small park just off the greenway here in Cheyenne.

We also have a little more time left before all the fall color is gone and I have a few evening opening the next couple of weeks. If you're interested in some family portraits, Give me a call(307-631-2719) or drop me an e-mail (Keith@shutter-Vision.com) and we can make an appointment. Now is the perfect tome for photos as the holiday season is coming up and you've got a long list of christmas cards to send out! Which leads me to the next post...

Just a quick Update!

• I just wanted post a quick update and to apologize for not keeping up with posts for the last few months. I have been extremely busy and, I've been trying to focus what little free time I do have into creating a new website along with a new blog. The blog will actually be integrated as the main page of the website instead of at a separate location. Once those are complete (hopefully within the next month), I'm going to work on a new client galleries for print ordering (hopefully the first part of 2009).

• Along with working on the website the next couple of weeks, I'm going to try and get caught up with blog posts as well. I have a couple of real estate properties, a wedding, a couple family portrait sessions and an engagement session that need to be posted.

• Tonight or tomorrow I'm going to post a new option for location portraits that I'm really excited about, some of you may have already seen it if you follow my myspace page.

• Have a great week and stay warm... they are calling for the possibility of snow starting tomorrow night into Wednesday morning.

2008-09-20 - Jamie and Brian

I just finished uploading Jamie and Brian's wedding gallery this afternoon, a couple days earlier than I anticipated.

It really was a wonderful day! They were staying at the Nagel Warren Mansion that night so Jamie also used that for her location to get ready for the wedding. She also had the great idea of having me meet them there to get some bridal portraits before heading over to the Community House in Lions Park for the ceremony. Though the mansion was tight on space, it was a beautiful location and made for some great portraits. I just wish we had a little more time, there are so many wonderful nooks and crannies.

From there we made our way to the Community House for the ceremony. The back porch overlooking the lake made for a great location the weather cooperated wonderfully with the clouds covering the harsh sun and cooling things down a bit, even the wind seemed to die down a bit for the evening. After the ceremony, fun was had by all with dancing, darts, and karaoke!

7482 Huntz Dr. - Cheyenne, WY.

Getting off of work at 3:30 Wednesday afternoon and looking to the west was not an uplifting sight... storm clouds. Normally I love the rain, but this night was different. I had a home to photograph. A downpour, a typical late summer rain here. As luck would have it though, the storm is just a quick one and as we're rolling up to the house, the rain starts to let up a bit and you can see some hope of sunshine to the west.

Since it's still raining a bit, I decide to proceed with the interior photos first. This house is amazing, there is a sitting area with a fireplace that is in addition to the breakfast nook and is just off the kitchen. I could image, one lazy, cold winter morning, just sitting in the comfy armchairs that were there drinking some coffee by the fire. Finished walkout basement had an entertainment and game room, and two bedrooms in addition to the master bedroom on the main floor and two bedrooms on the second floor. One of the basement bedrooms I would call a guest suite, as it was almost as large as the master and it had it's own bathroom. Finally, nestled upstairs, above the garage, was an room that would make an extremely nice office or play room.

Waiting to photograph the exterior really paid off... the sun was just below the horizon, basking the front of the westward facing home in a warm glow and creating some great colors in the clouds behind the house.

08/08/08 - Suzannah and Benjamin

Despite a few changes in plans it was a beautiful wedding.

Originally scheduled to be in the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens, incoming storms caused the cermeony to be held at the back-up location, the Calvery Baptist Church. Pre-Ceremony photos were taken at the Capitol building downtown, which was a first for me and was a great location, I just wish we had a little but more time to capture more of the setting.

It's been a busy week. I had a wedding on the 8th and working on those photos has been keeping me busy for the most part. On Wednesday though, I got to take a little break from those to photograph a beautiful home.

The house is part of Cheyenne's Parade of Homes, going on this weekend and next weekend, under the listings for #1 Properties, and is the type of home I just dream of having (though don't see it happening anytime soon). Walk out basement, large entertainment room with wet-bar, roomy kitchen, terrific master bedroom with master bath. The previous week I went out to get a photo of the house and a great sunset, which with all the clouds and rain lately, was a lucky surprise. This last Wednesday I went back and focused on the interior photos. If you look at the windows in the photos, you can see the awesome views of the surrounding plains.

On Monday, I wad a wonderful session with these two very active little boys. Mom and Grandma got them to sit for a few shots, then we just let them run around for a bit. They eventually settled themselves on a bench where I captured the above photo, my favorite of the day.

You know what? Keith and I had a beautiful wedding. August 4th, 2001 - our 7-year anniversary is coming up, and we've had a pretty good run.

I was just out of grad school; he had just moved up from Denver. Both of us were in pretty crappy jobs - although mine, at a flower shop - provided the "friends and family discount" on our wedding flowers. So as a result, I had two or three thousand dollars worth of flowers for about $1100.

As a bride who didn't know any better, I thought I could skimp on a few things: we'd have the reception at my mom & dad's and do a nice spread of veggies, cold cuts, tea and lemonade, etc. We'd go camping in Estes Park for our honeymoon. We'd have my sister's psycho best friend be our wedding nazi (but THAT, my friends, is a post allllllll it's own).

We even interviewed a few photographers; but in the end, my jones for flowers won out - as well as my insistence on a Martha-esque treatment of the wedding cake. We decided to have a friend of the family do our wedding pictures.

Honest? They were okay. But they were snapshots. Underexposed, overexposed, poorly composed.

It just comes to mind now because Keith is getting ready to deliver a wedding album for Katie and Ryan, who were married in March. And I'm jealous. Their album is exquisite. Exquisite.

With the wedding snapshots we have, Keith and I can never have anything like that - and I really regret it now. I didn't think it mattered. But oh, it does. Our wedding photos say only that we were married. But they'll never tell the true story of that day.

Last night I got the opportunity to photograph a property for June Casey of #1 Properties. It was a really special case as they were hoping to obtain a twilight. I arrived a bit early so I could update some of their interior images as well.

Given the open views from the property, I wanted to incorporate, these into the interior photos. This is where my expertise and equipment comes into play. Our eyes have the amazing ability to see within a wide dynamic range of light. Technology hasn't been able to duplicate that ability yet, which, is why what we see isn't always what's captured in camera (film or digital). I have portable flashes that, strategically placed, allow me to bring up the brightness of the light inside to match what's outside in a way that even a single flash on camera is unable to duplicate.

Wyoming Bank & Trust Session

• I had a great session with some of the employees from Wyoming Bank & Trust yesterday! Despite the threat of rain we decided to proceed with the session and produce some great images. I did did actually start sprinkling a bit, which had me a bit worried because I was using my studio light.
• I recently purchased a large battery pack that allows me to take my studio lights on location when my smaller flashes just don't quite have enough power for the situation. It is a bit of a bulkier set-up though so it's probably not something I would use for weddings where I'm constantly moving. I really look forward to getting more use out of it though.

Cheyenne Symphony Orchestra Billboards!

I just saw something really exciting today! Actually, two of them!
The new billboards for the Cheyenne Symphony Orchestra 2008-2009
They are REALLY snazzy looking, which I'm sure has a lot to do with the photo. ;)
I am really happy with the way the photo itself turned out, as it was a concept that popped into my head as soon as I was approached for the project and they told me the title for the season: Great Expectations. It just made me think "the sky is the limit" and it was something I had to do. If you want to check them out there is one westbound Dell Range after Office Depot on the left side of the road. The other is on southbound on Yellowstone just past Story, again on the left side of the road (pictured below).

You can find out more about the Cheyenne Symphony Orchestra at: http://www.cheyennesymphony.org/
Unfortunately they don't have the upcoming season info up yet, but my wife tells me it's going to be a great one!

What's going on...

So what's been going on?
• Well, over the last couple of weeks I've been taking less work to spend more time with my family. Since my daughter started T-Ball for the first time this summer I wanted to be there for all her "games," and take pictures of course. *BUT* this last weekend she fell and broke her arm... which unfortunately for her means no more T-Ball. Right now it's just splint and wrapped, and the actual cast is being put on Thursday. Really though, it's barely slowed her down. She's running around like nothing is wrong, tough little girl.

So what does that mean?
• It means I have more time available for creating images. As a result, I'm starting a...

Summer Portrait Session Special!
For the months of July and August, I'm running a special on the session fee for portraits. For only $75, we'll create a portrait session at a location of your choice and include a free 8x10 desk print. Also, for everyone that orders a 24x30 or larger canvas print, the $75 session fee will be applied to the to the print cost.

The weather has been gorgeous and everything is green!! It's a perfect time to start thinking about those Family photos, Senior Photos, and even photos for this year's christmas cards! If you're interested, please call or e-mail me to make an appointment. I look forward to creating some wonderful images for you!

06-21-2008 - Jennifer - Casper, Wyoming

• I had a great time this last weekend visiting my friend, and fellow photographer, Jennifer of Steed's Photography in Casper, WY. It was a perfect morning, not a could in the sky and no wind. We drove up to a little waterfall area and took a short walk up to scout out the location before hauling our gear up. After discussing what she wanted and what our options were we headed back down to grab my camera and flash. We were lucky to get set-up while no one else was there, but after a few while more people started showing up...

• Jenn was feeling a bit awkward with everyone watching, so we packed it up and headed back down to the car. Plus we didn't want to get in the way of people hiking up there to enjoy the falls. Just before getting to the parking area, we hiked around the stream a bit and found where it passes under the bridge to be a pretty cool location so we set the equipment up again and created a few more images before heading out.

• Hanging out with friends is always fun, it's also a lot of fun to get out to a new location and create some images that were a bit different than I had done before. I applied a few techniques I had learned at the workshops in Colorado this last spring, and I'm looking forward to using them a lot more.
