It's been a busy busy week...

Well, I'm finally "finished" with the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition project, well at least the photography part anyway. In a couple of weeks I'll start editing the photos and hopefully start creating a gallery to post the images. I'm still limited to what I can show until the episode airs (so far thy're saying November) so don't expect much other than exterior construction shots.

Before I can get to that though I have a few other things going on. This weekend I just photographed a wonderful wedding in the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens. It was a bit warm that day, but the ceremony was short and sweet. After the formal group photos we had a chance to take a few quick photos of just the couple that I think turned out really well. The reception was a small intimate affair held at the Train Depot downtown. I should have the photos posted in a gallery at the end of the week, but until then, here's a teaser...


Following what's sure to be a long, grueling, day of work on the Tuesday after Labor Day Weekend, I'm out of town for the rest of the week on a business trip... Photoshop World in Las Vegas. As neither my wife or I have been there before I'm going to try and limit myself as to what I see and do until a time where we can both go. That means no Star Trek Experience, yes, sadly we are both a kind-of of trekkies, though we hide it well. I'm not sure how much time I'll have to see the sites anyway. Photoshop World is a huge event for photographers and digital artists and there's always something going on. I should be back rejuvinated and eager to try out new techniques.

That being said, the second half of September is going to be a great time for photos. I'll have new ideas to try out. The fall colors will be starting to come any time now (you can already fill the chill in the morning air). I'm looking at setting aside one weekend for Family Portraits at Vedauwoo. Right now I'm looking at the 22nd or the 29th depending on weather and the colors. If you're interested give me a call, drop me an e-mail, or leave a comment here. What might be nice is to make it a big event with a potluck BBQ one evening and take a few family portraits at once. Hmmm... The gears are now turning....

Over the next week I'm going to be covering a lot of behind-the-scene progress for the TV show Extreme Makeover Home Edition. My job is to essentially highlight the activities of the Vendors and Volunteers. Without the donations of materials, money, and time of these companies and people, a project like this would not be possible. August is turning out to be a full month...

My anniversary was on the 4th, unfortunately I was sick most of the weekend. We were able to at least relax and make it to a couple of movies.

This week I'm working on wrapping up a project with the Wyoming Department of Health. I did a infant photography session for their PRAMS program. In a few days they'll have their final images selected for use for on posters and brochures.

Starting this Friday, I begin work on a week long "Top Secret" project. No... Really... I even had to sign a non-disclosure agreement. I will post more about it when I can, hopefully by the beginning of next week.

Sprinkle in a wedding and a couple portrait sessions, it's shaping up to be a busy month. I'm just glad my wife is supporting me in all this and trying to help out where she can. Thanks and Love ya wifey.

Unfortunately I haven't been posting to my blog as much as I would like. Not enough time in the day. At times it feels like I'm trying to squeeze 26hrs into a 24hr timeframe.

The Wyoming Game and Fish Department project is still keeping be pretty busy. I'm about half way through the latest batch of product they've given me. I'm really looking forward to seeing how the catalog is going to turn out.

Wedding Season has kicked in. I've photographed a couple really nice weddings so far this summer. I'm really happy with the photography I've provided this year and I'm sure the brides are as well. Changes...

I'm so excited! I just got back from a week long photography workshop in Breckenridge, Colorado. I learned so much and met a lot of great people. Over the next few months, I'm going to be implementing some changes and techniques that I learned. Most of it will be business related things that most people will never see but I got a lot of other good information as well that will help with my lighting as well.

Actually... the workshop was so good I already signed up to go next year. I love learning new techniques and meeting others to share ideas with. I'm always striving to make myself and my work better.

Speaking of work, while I was at the workshop, I got the news that one of my photos of Edmund J. Schmidt (see the blog post from April, the Director of the Wyoming Department of Revenue, made the cover of the magazine StateWays. It's very exciting, I really hope to do more of that kind of work.

As you may, or may not, know, in addition to my photography business, my day job is as a photographer for a local catalog company here in Cheyenne: Sierra Trading Post. There I mostly photograph product for the catalog where my specialty is "hard goods," or, basically anything that is not clothing. I do some clothing here and there when needed but mostly I am responsible for product ranging from cufflinks and watches to large 8-person tents and bed sets. Most of it involves shooting the same type of product over and over... it's amazing how many styles and manufactures of sunglasses there are.

On the Shutter-Vision side of things, I recently picked up a contract with the Wyoming Game and Fish Department to photograph product for their Catalog and Online Gift Shop. It's come at a time where I have some personal situations in transition. but I believe once I get the ball rolling there and get over the initial crunch with the product, and as things slow down a bit over the next couple of weeks at home, it should go pretty smoothly.

In a personal note... Brodie gets her cast off on Wednesday, assuming everything goes well at the appointment. I can't believe it's been 4 weeks already. She definitely hasn't let it slow her down. At day care she tries to climb the climbing wall and ladder on the play set, though they don't let her. Last thing we need is for her to slip and have something else happen. There have been a couple times where she's made it half way up while they were briefly distracted by another child... I wouldn't be surprised if she planned that. Needless to say though she was not happy when they would take her down. Yesterday when I picked her up she wanted to jump of their front porch like she used to before the cast, that porch is nearly as tall as she is. I didn't let her but she did jump off the bottom step. It's going to be interesting watching her readapt to life without the cast. She'll be glad to have it off but we'll really have to work with her leg to get her back to normal. I think it'll be a quick recovery though, if the way she adapted to the cast was any indication.

It's been a crazy week to say the least.

On Sunday I did a shoot at Vedauwoo in 35mph winds, wasn't that windy in town when we left. It was actually less windy than the day before when we originally planned the shoot. That's Wyoming for you. To add to the fun there was still an inch or two of snow on the ground from Friday, where in town it had all nearly melted. Despite the challenges, I still think we got exactly what we wanted.




On Monday, 2yr old little girl, Brodie, broke her leg at day care. We're not sure exactly what happened, just that she was going down the slide and when she got to the bottom she started crying. Everyone's best guess is that her foot somehow got caught at the bottom when she was coming off the slide or she just came off the slide wrong and it twisted her leg. It's kinda cute though... you ask her how she hurt her leg and she sticks out her bottom lip in a pout and simply says "Slide." She is handling it extremely well for a 2yr old I think. She doesn't act like she's in any pain, she always has a smile on her face, and she only gets a little fussy when she wants to move and do something. If we hold her hands she'll walk on it, awkwardly of course but she's trying. The cast is only going to be on on 4 weeks, but I think it'll be a looong 4 weeks.

I got a chance to shoot one of the local ranches for #1 Properties. It was an amazing place. It's about 15 minutes north of Cheyenne. There are several barn structures, one dedicated to show cattle. There was a huge freezer in the barn for keeping cattle during the summer months, but it's not for what you would think. We're talking live cattle, not slabs of meet. This is done to help promote hair growth so the cattle can be given a somewhat stylized hair cut for the shows.

It's a large 880 acre property that costs more than I could ever hope to afford, but I would love a hunk of property like that. There are trees all around the home, but the rest of the land is typical SouthEast Wyoming property, open. You can still just make out the mountains of Colorado to the SouthWest and the Vedauwoo rock formations to the West.

It started out as a really nice morning. I arrived shortly after 8am. I talked with the agent and the owner for about 15 minutes about what they wanted, after that I pretty much had free reign of the property. Four barn structures (one was actually an insulated and heated workshop) and the house were in fairly close proximity, so I spent the bulk of the morning there. As time passed the clouds increased in number, making things a lot more difficult than I would have liked. The last half hour was almost complete overcast, so I had to make the best of what I was getting.

All in all though it was a great day. I wish I could get out a lot more like that. It was just one of those experiences that helps to remind me why I love photography so much.
